APPLE HAS FINALLY acknowledged one
of the most long-standing criticisms of the iPhone with the launch of
its own battery case for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S.
As first spotted by Pocket-lint, the Smart Battery Case is available to buy now on Apple's website priced at £79. It's available in either Charcoal Grey or White, and Apple is promising delivery within one to three days.
It's the first ever case developed by Apple that featured an integrated battery pack, and the company says the new iPhone accessory offers an impressive 25 hours of extended usage. This figure drops to 18 hours if you're planning to stream video over 4G, naturally.
In terms of design, the Smart Battery Case is similar to the Silicon cases that Apple currently offers, with the addition of a protruding bulge on its rear.
"The soft microfibre lining on the inside helps protect your iPhone, while the soft elastomer hinge design makes it easy to put the case on and take it off again," Apple explains. "On the outside, the silky, soft-touch finish of the silicone exterior feels great in your hand."
Apple claims its battery case is better than others on the market, such as those offered by Mophie, as users will be able to swipe down in the Notifications centre to see the battery levels for the iPhone and Smart Battery rather than relying on a button on the case itself. These figures will also be displayed on the iPhone's lock screen.
Unlike most battery cases available today, this one is charged via Apple's standard Lightning cable.
There's no word yet as to whether Apple will be releasing a version of the Smart Battery Case for the iPhone 6 Plus or 6S Plus. µ
